Planetary Avasthas, also known as planetary states or conditions, are essential concepts in Vedic astrology that describe the strength, maturity, and influence of planets in a birth chart. There are several Avasthas that indicate the state of a planet based on its placement, aspects, and interactions with other planets. Here are some of the key planetary Avasthas:

1.      Baladi Avasthas:

●       Baladi Avastha: The basic condition of a planet based on its placement in a specific sign of the zodiac. Planets are classified into different Avasthas such as childhood (Bala), youth (Kumara), prime (Yuva), old age (Vriddha), and death (Mrita) based on their position in certain signs.

2.      Dig Bala:

●       Dig Bala (Directional Strength): Refers to the strength of a planet based on its placement in one of the cardinal directions (East, South, West, North). Each planet has maximum strength when placed in specific directions, with the Sun and Mars strong in the east, Venus and the Moon strong in the southeast, Saturn strong in the west, Jupiter strong in the northeast, and Mercury strong in the north.

3.      Chesta Bala:

●       Chesta Bala (Motional Strength): Indicates the strength of a planet based on its speed of movement through the zodiac. Planets moving at normal speed have medium strength, while retrograde planets or those moving slowly have reduced strength. Direct and fast-moving planets are considered strong.

4.      Ayu Bala:

●       Ayu Bala (Temporal Strength): Refers to the strength of a planet based on its position in a person's life cycle. Planets are stronger in certain stages of life: childhood (Bala Avastha), youth (Kumara Avastha), prime of life (Yuva Avastha), old age (Vriddha Avastha), and death (Mrita Avastha).

5.      Sthan Bala:

●       Sthan Bala (Positional Strength): Indicates the strength of a planet based on its position in the birth chart, such as Kendra (angular houses), Panaphara (succedent houses), or Apoklima (cadent houses). Planets in angular houses are considered strongest, followed by succedent houses and cadent houses.

6.      Kala Bala:

●       Kala Bala (Temporal Strength): Indicates the strength of a planet based on its position in the zodiac during the day or night and its distance from the Sun. Planets have maximum strength when farthest from the Sun and placed in certain signs during the day or night.

7.      Drik Bala:

●       Drik Bala (Aspectual Strength): Refers to the strength of a planet based on its aspects to other planets. Planets receiving benefic aspects (from Jupiter or Venus) are strengthened, while malefic aspects (from Mars, Saturn, or the nodes) can weaken a planet.

These planetary Avasthas provide a nuanced understanding of the strength and influence of planets in a birth chart, allowing astrologers to assess their impact on various aspects of life and personality traits. By analyzing these Avasthas along with other astrological factors, astrologers can provide deeper insights and more accurate predictions for individuals.
